Davs!
As a sophomore in college I want to challenge my limits, venture outside of my comfort zone, and take part in cultural traditions. For the 2014-15 academic year, I will be studying environmental sustainability in Denmark. I want to incorporate the European culture, philosophy, and economics about the environment into my studies.
My fall 2014 and spring 2015 programs, Sustainability in Europe and Environmental Climate Change of the Artic respectively, are built around a curriculum that includes week long study tours around Europe to supplement hands-on learning. During the fall 2014 semester I will be visiting London, England to see firsthand how corporate English businesses are practicing sustainable green markets. After a busy first semester, my second semester will be focused on the study of the ice bergs of Greenland. Studying abroad for the academic year also offers me the opportunity to conduct my own independent research project facilitated by a staff member. For this research project, I will focus my project on how Danish farmers are practicing sustainable agriculture, as well as preform my own experiments with various organic amendments and fertilizers and how they affect soil fertility.
Apart from the academic experience, studying abroad has an immense and intimate culture experience as well. Denmark is home to roughly 5.6 million Danes and is the only country where Danish is spoken. Being the only Danish country I will be receiving a unique culture experience that can only be achieved in Denmark. I will be living with a Danish family through a Homestay and will be studying the Danish language for the whole year.
For program cost, much of my tuition is covered by financial aid and scholarships, however extra study tours, my airfare to Denmark, and daily living expenses are funds I am responsible for; I hope to raise around $3,000 for my year expenses. If you have any questions for myself or about my program feel free to email me at sk8terchick506@gmail.com.
