My Travel Story

Each time I’ve visited the Philippines I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a village called Cangumbang, and each time I’ve been overwhelmed with the amazing, intelligent, and gracious men, women, and children that live there. The individuals that really stand out to me are the boys and girls that are not only working hard to help their parents care for their family, but are also committing themselves to furthering their education, no matter how difficult it may be.

I’m excited to be visiting the Philippines and Cangumbang again in February 2016. This time I’d like to be able to tell one of these young women that we’ve raised funds to help her further her college education.

This young woman is friendly and talkative and never seems to be scared to approach and strike up a conversation with any visitor! She is the first one in her family to pursue higher education and continues to illustrate a drive to continue her studies. In addition to clearly valuing education in all its forms, her desire to get involved in extracurricular activities, fondness of dancing, and vocal talent contribute to her vibrant personality.
