My Travel Story

by: Shelby Fawcett Start Date: Nov 23, 2015 - End Date: Feb 28, 2016
I've been lucky enough to have traveled since a very young age and always grew up knowing it would be something I'd enjoy for as long as possible. More recently I've been interested in volunteering to benefit others rather than just traveling for personal gain. Not knowing where to start with the process or where I'd want to visit, I was aimlessley scrolling through Facebook one day when I saw an ad for "International Volunteer HQ" (IVHQ) and began seriously considering a volunteer trip!

Now I am registered, have booked a flight and paid my program fee! Leaving for Chiang Rai, Thailand on March 6th 2016 I have signed up for the "outdoor work" program with IVHQ. Over my 6 weeks there I will be working alongside other volunteers from around the world, as well as facilitators from the Mirror Foundation (IVHQ's contact company in Thailand) to do whatever it is the community needs at the time. This can be anything from building and repairing roads and/or buildings to planting and maintaining gardens.

Through my registration fee and program cost IVHQ takes care of our accommodation and meals for our work week (Tuesday- Saturday) and provides us with supervisors both before and during our trip. We will be living in shared accommodations, sleeping on thin Thai- style mats and engaging with the locals as much as possible.

I chose to set up this campaign page as a way to inform family and friends of what I will be doing, I have linked the Thailand page of IVHQ's website below if you are interested in further information about my trip or are considering a volunteer trip of your own! This page is also a way for anyone who feels obliged, to donate money that I will use towards my (very long) flight. *to make a contribution, click the blue "Fund Campaign" button on the right* Thank you in advance, I really appreciate it :)
