I have been dreaming of studying abroad since I was a freshman in high school. Studying abroad will give me the chance to continue my education while being emerged in the culture, customs, and education practices of a society that is different from the one I grew up in, here in Kansas.

One of the many wonderful advantages about being a K-State student, is that there are so many reputable institutions all over the world that accept K-State students into their programs. Not to mention the large international presence on our campus here in Manhattan, Kansas.

From an academic as well as from a cultural perspective, I would be very much looking forward to spending a semester in London, England. After doing my research online and speaking with other students and representatives who have studied abroad, it confirmed my choice. Studying in London will allow me to live, experience, and study in deep new cultures I wouldn’t normally study here at K-State. I am also looking forward to the opportunity to travel around Europe. There is an incredible amount of history all around and I am very excited to experience it all.

At K-State I am working towards my Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Industry; majoring in Animal Science, Bioscience and Biotech option. I am also working to complete my minors in Leadership Studies and Business. Animal Science if a very broad industry with many opportunities; many companies that will be recruiting for jobs when I graduate will more then likely have some international component. Having the opportunity to live and study for a semester abroad will give me a unique perspective that I feel will set me apart from my peers.

This past summer, I worked as the North America Marketing Intern for Novus International. I was given a great opportunity to not only learn about Novus and their products but to also gain some insight on the research they are doing and how it is affecting the industry. Novus is an international company and has regional offices in every part of the world. It is positions like these that I would like to turn into a career when I graduate. With already having the experience of traveling/living abroad it could present many more opportunities for me once I enter the work force.

My course work at K-State has given me a lot of practical experiences in a variety of subjects including science, leadership, and business. I feel that I am a very well rounded student and person as a whole, and I am excited to learn and experience new things. With that said. I was born and raised in Kansas, and although it is a wonderful place, there is so much more to see and experience in this world. My motivation and attention to detail has increasingly helped me make strides in my course work and also to get ahead, which has made the decision to study abroad that much more affordable and achievable.

I believe the best way to learn is through experience. I am not a quitter and I will work incredibly hard to succeed in all my course work. I know that studying in London will not only be a great opportunity academically but I am confident it will also prepare me professionally. I am also looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences upon my arrival home.

I hope that I have the opportunity to pursue my dream, and study in London for this upcoming spring, while also being an ambassador for Kansas State University overseas.
