We are the type that hide in volumes of books stacked to the ceiling in libraries reading for ages about people in other parts of the world. We love a good story. We love to learn. We love to connect with diversity and be challenged by our creativity, endurance and capacity for compassion.

We are a non-conformist mother and teenage guru- both discontent with the educational system, judicial system, racial inequality, and lack of social justice in America. Rather than complain about it or post memes on social media that fail to be called action, we are venturing out of our safe, cozy corners and seeking a dynamic adventure. As a mutual Rite's of Passage, we are exploring new opportunities for learning, professional and personal growth, spiritual development and testing the edges of our comfort zones.
Family would like to be supportive, but this is too scary for them. Teachers would like to help, but they struggle to understand why we want this. Friends adore the idea, but think its a crazy phase. We, on the other hand, will push forth and find a way to feel more inspired, be more vulnerable, more tolerant, more engaged.

We need your help getting there. Our first destination is Mexico where our years of Spanish will be put to use, we will learn about old Mexican culture and ceremonial traditions. We will be going for a month in Jan and taking school work with us as an independent study project. If this experiment works we will test out our theories in Australia for two months in the spring diving deeper into the history of Aboriginals and the detriments of colonization. As a parent, I am assuming responsibiity for all of the travel plans, curriculum development, emergency funds etc. The teenage guru will be weighted with the responsibility of remaining open, adaptable, changeable and honest. Not an easy quest, but one all gurus must undertake.

We strive to find ways we can embrace others, connect and share story, love, food and friendship. There is a great shift in our nation and we hope to inspire new conversations about how to be conscious humans. Join us!
