Only 50% of refugee children attend primary school. I will be dedicating my time to educate and work with refugee and asylum-seeking families from Syria, Afghanistan, and other countries from Africa and Asia on the small island of Samos, Greece. Formal and informal education can encourage children to reach their future goals.
During my time in Samos, I plan to write a paper about ethical volunteering and the negative side effects that can arise through non-ethical volunteering. I hope to bring positive awareness to the influences our actions can have.
My experience overseas will impact my future by supporting my career goals. When I return, I plan to pursue a Master's Degree in International Education then go on to receive my Ph.D. in Early Childhood Development. These degrees and experiences will provide me with first-hand insight into building programming and policies that will increase Early Childhood Education efforts in countries of need.
I chose to volunteer in Samos because I was drawn to the refugee cause. As the child of a refugee, I'm aware of the added difficulties that these families face. I am extremely passionate about encouraging individuals to reach their full potential while spreading compassion and understanding. I am confident that this experience will allow me to provide for others while gaining invaluable knowledge.
Please consider donating to my program and buying my handmade macrame items for your home, the proceeds will go to funding this program.
