My Travel Story

Hi my name is Ashton, I am a junior in high school and I have been offered a once in a life time experience to travel to Costa Rica for 2 weeks. I have been invited by the FutureVets program to join them, with many other students, for a 2 week hands on internship to shadow veterinarians. You may be wondering what FututreVets is; FutureVets is an exclusive once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for high school students to experience real veterinary medicine right now. Students will shadow veterinarians as they treat, diagnose and rehabilitate small and large animals (oftentimes in their natural habit), view surgeries and emergency medicine as it happens, and participate in rotations, clinical lab, research, anatomy, nutrition, including pathology (experiences reserved only for 3rd and 4th year veterinary school students here in the United States). I am very excited to be offered this opportunity because I have loved animals and had a passion for animals which has lead me to want to become a veterinarian. This program will allow me to learn things that I would not learn until about the middle of vet school. I will be able to bring back and share my experience with everyone else in my community. This is an honors program, so only the best of the best students were offered this and I am proud to say that I was offered this once in a life time opportunity.
