My Travel Story

by: Megan Bartley Start Date: Feb 13, 2020 - End Date: Jun 12, 2020
Hey! My name is Megan and I am currently a sophomore at UNC Charlotte, majoring in pre-nursing. It has always been a dream of mine to study/volunteer abroad in order to expand my knowledge of different cultures by experiencing it firsthand, while also contributing to the community.

I currently plan to volunteer for 8-12 weeks in either Greece, Croatia or Italy, where I will be helping to prepare and distribute meals to children or assisting in nursing abandoned animals back to health.

I have always loved volunteering and have done it all my life. Some of the volunteer work I have done includes volunteering at the Wake County SPCA, reading to kids at local elementary schools, volunteering at fundraising events to raise money to build schools in South Sudan and stock them with desks and books. I also assisted in coordinating the recycling program at my high school, volunteered as a youth soccer coach, and assisted a recreational therapist in performing guided activities with those with dementia in a Davison nursing home. I would love to take volunteering to a bigger and broader scale. I also hope to experience a new culture, meet new people, give back to the community to the best of my ability, and possibly change lives.

I am currently in school, while also working a part-time job and babysitting. Although I’m working hard to earn the money, I won’t be able to do it on my own and just need some assistance in reaching my goal. Any penny helps and is very much appreciated!
