My Travel Story

by: Sienna Wong Start Date: Feb 26, 2022 - End Date: Aug 25, 2022
In July, I will be working with LAST (Latin American Sea Turtles) for 2 weeks to help with sea turtle conservation projects on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. We will focus on rehabilitation and research of Hawksbill and Easter Pacific Green Turtles, who are both critically endangered. As none of the sea turtles are in captivity, my work will include capturing individuals, tagging them, taking biometric data and blood samples, and releasing them back to the ocean.

I will also be helping with mangrove reforestation projects to help improve the quality of essential water sources and to protect ecosystems, including coral reefs.

Working so closely with these fascinating sea creatures would be a once-in-a-lifeitme experience. I want to study Veterinary Medicine at university and I am keen on making a positive impact on animal welfare and wildlife conservation. I really look forward to this amazing opportunity!
