Hello!

This summer I will be participating in an education-based travel program to Myanmar through the organization Where There Be Dragons.

The central focus of the program is on development studies and social change, and throughout the program we will address complex questions surrounding Myanmar’s recent transition to a democratic political system and the impacts of such a reform on the culture and environment. We will focus on the issues that come along with rapid development and economic growth amid continuing poverty and learn about approaches to sustainable community-based development.

I see this trip as an incredible opportunity to open my mind to the possibilities for work in the field of sustainable development and better shape my ideas of what I want to pursue in college and beyond. As a young person from Maine, I really want to push myself to expand my worldview. Since I was a little kid, I’ve been inspired by my anthropologist father to view the world in a complex way and strive to understand not only my own culture but many others.

I am truly grateful for your support.
