My Travel Story

Exciting news! I'll be heading to Myrtle Beach in June to present my abstract at the 51st American Meteorological Society Broadcast Conference! This has been a personal goal of mine for a very long time, and I finally get to share my ideas with the world!
My abstract is about diversity in the newsroom, specifically centered around broadcast meteorology. Not only does it highlight the importance of diversity, but explains how inclusivity impacts how viewers receive important information such as severe weather updates. Social sciences show that viewers relate to anchors that they resemble. Studies show that with media trustworthiness at an all time low, newsrooms around the country still struggle to mirror the image of real world people. Individuality is key to journalism, and now more than ever needs to be introduced into broadcast meteorology. I will be the second student from the University of Oklahoma to ever present at this conference and the first Sophomore, making me the youngest OU present in school history! I'm so excited to make my journey to South Carolina to present, but I cannot do it alone. Your donation would help me fund travel fees, meals, and conference fees.
