The Italian Job - Chico and Amy's adventure roadtrip!
My Travel Story
We are Chico and Amy and we love to travel!
We have been together for almost three years and we have never been able to realise our dream of doing a BIG road trip together due to finances :(
This summer is very important for both of us because Chico is about to start university in Huddersfield and Amy is going back to her course in London so we will be doing long distance for the first time. We wanted to try and make this dream happen as a way of celebrating our three year anniversary.
Here is a bit more about us:
We met online in 2021 and pretty instantly fell in love over a summer in Portugal. Amy is studying Dance and Musical Theatre at university and Chico is about to start a course in Music Production. We are both creative minds and hope to travel all over the world together. So far this hasn't been possible due to health and financial difficulties that we have supported each other through.
We have decided it's time to follow our hearts and take a leap of faith to pursue our travel dreams especially before we start our next long distance chapter. We know there are many significant campaigns online however we wanted to put our dreams out there as well as all the hard work we will be putting in to save as much as we can to make this possible.
About the trip:
Both of us have a lot of bucket list places in the world but Italy is probably the most achievable at the moment (and neither of us have ever been)!
We are planning three phases to our journey and we will be doing in a campervan to maximise the amount of places we can explore.
- First Phase - Riviera:
After picking up the campervan, we will start our journey in the beautiful city of Sanremo. As the name suggests, the objective is to travel all through the riviera coast line all the way to Spezia. We are thinking of stopping at Genoa, Portofino, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Rio Maggiore and finally finishing at La Spezzia.
- Second Phase - Tuscany:
This next step would take us all the way to Florence where we would spend a day exploring the wonderful wonders it has to offer. After that, we would travel through the scenic route of Tuscany, passing through little towns and villages. Our initial plan sees us stop at Val D'Orcia, Bagno Vignoni and the Civita di Bagnoregio, before finally landing in Rome where we would take a day or two to explore!
- Third Phase - Adriatic Coast
The last part of the journey goes across the country to the beautiful Adriatic Coast. We would start at Termoli and make our way down through Rodi Garganico, Peschici, Vieste, Bari, Polignano a Mare, Monopoli and finally Gallipoli.

What the money's for
- Caravan
Any money we get will go solely towards this journey. Due to the amount of places and days we want to spend in Italy, our biggest expense will definitely be the campervan. The quicker we manage to save up for the caravan, the cheaper it will be. At this moment, prices for 29 days of a campervan are about 2400€ (£2000).
- Flights
The next big expense is the flights. Prices will change depending again on when we book them, but mainly where we get the caravan from. The best places to fly to will probably be either Milan or Turin. Current prices are around 420€ (£350).
- Food
Food is quite tricky to estimate, but we usually spend about £250 per month in the UK for groceries. In a campervan is very different, but one of the main things is if the vehicle has a fridge and a stove. Even if it is really small, that will make a massive difference. We are also not planning on eating out a lot. Obviously Italy is an amazing place for food, but we think that just buying food from Italian supermarkets will give us quite an amazing experience. We are estimating about 350€ (£300) for food.
- Other
There is not much else we are looking to spend on. The main thing here would be any emergencies we might have, parking charges or camping charges for the campervan. We will try and park up in mostly free places, and make use of public facilities to have showers etc. For this, we estimate an expense of around 480€ (£420).
TOTAL
Between everything we are going to need about 3650€ (£3070)

Amy's Rewards
I am really into crocheting, ceramics and painting at the moment, so my rewards will be mainly around that. However, anything creative I am always up to experimenting. What else are we doing to make our dream come true
At the moment, Chico is working full time and Amy is studying full time. Chico is trying his best to earn some commission and really work hard to make as much money as possible through his work. Amy's course is really intensive so she can't really do much, however, she is really onboard with selling any creative projects she gets into.

Conclusion
We really hope we manage to fulfill this trip to Italy. It has been a dream of ours for a long time, and we are going to try very hard to make it happen.
