Volunteer while Gap Before Graduate School Research
My Travel Story
To offset travel costs and gain valuable local experience, I'm interested in volunteer opportunities related to urban planning or community development. This would allow me to interact with residents, witness firsthand the challenges and successes of local planning initiatives, and contribute positively to the community.
I'm particularly interested in understanding the distinct urban planning strategies employed in Singapore and Malaysia. By comparing these approaches with Western models, I aim to develop a holistic perspective on urban development. This comparative analysis will be crucial for my future studies in Canada, where I hope to gain the skills to create healthy and sustainable living environments for citizens globally.
Singapore, with its blend of Eastern and Western influences and its status as a developed nation, presents a unique case study. Observing how its political system, culture, and economy shape its urban landscape will greatly enrich my understanding of how diverse factors impact city development.
This opportunity to volunteer and conduct research in Singapore and Malaysia will serve as a valuable foundation for my academic and professional pursuits in urban planning. I'm passionate about contributing to the creation of thriving and well-being-focused urban environments for all.
