Study Abroad in Scandinavia!
My Travel Story
For my study abroad, I will be taking a class called Psychology of Violence and Hate in Sweden to learn more about what leads people to extreme violence, including terrorism, genocide, etc. This class includes a one week study trip to Germany where we will learn about the motivation of the German people during WWII. This class will allow me to build upon my previous knowledge of biases and motivations through my Cognitive Science degree. I will also be taking a class called European Genocides in Denmark where we will be focusing on the Holocaust; how it occured, what happened, and its lasting effects on the world. I'm excited to not only visit other countries (I've never been outside of the United States or even on a plane) but to also learn through the lens of another country! In the US, many historical events taught in school are focused on the US involvement, and studying abroad will allow me to fully grasp the meaning and importance of WWII in the context of the actual region that it occurred.
My sister has studied abroad and emphasized to me how invaluable it is to expanding your worldview and increasing your confidence and independence (the photos are some that she's taken while abroad)! I chose this destination because my grandparents are from and grew up in Sweden, and I want to visit the places that I always heard about and even visit some of my family that's currently there. I have been self-studying Swedish for a couple of years and hope to increase my understanding and knowledge of Swedish through speaking with locals. I'm also extremely excited to experience different cultures while abroad by talking with other international students.
I am in need of financial help to help pay for my study abroad right now. Unfortunately, with the way the FAFSA has reformatted their application, the wait times to hear back for financial aid are really long right now and I likely won't hear back until the end of April or beginning of May, in which case it may be too late for me to find ways to raise money if I don't receive aid. This trip is really meaningful for me and anything helps! Thank you!
