My Travel Story

by: Jennifer Maszczak Start Date: Jun 15, 2024 - End Date: Oct 14, 2024
Greetings from New Hampshire, USA.  We are a family of four looking to go on the cruise of a lifetime - ages 50, 46, 21 & 11.  I don’t have any unfortunate story of traveling for a medical miracle or a survivor of any kind, but I have a story of an all-American wholesome family looking to spend some quality time together.

We will hopefully cruise from New York City on the Norwegian Prima and sail to St. Kitts, St. Thomas, San Juan, Tortola, the Dominican Republic, and Bermuda in November.  This is our children’s first cruise and first time outside the US.  We plan on going scuba diving, zip lining, swimming with dolphins, and most importantly, introducing our children to different cultures. My husband and I also plan on renewing our vows after being married for 20 years (on a beach, of course).

In March 2022, my son enlisted in the US Air Force and was assigned to the West Coast as a Boom Operator. We don’t see him very often, and by the time of the cruise, we will have been apart for about a year.  Since my son does not make much money serving our country, we would like to raise enough funds to cover his share of the trip expenses as well.  I don’t know when the next time we will have a family trip with just the four of us.  Time is truly precious.

On a personal note, I have Bipolar I Disorder and experienced a manic episode last spring immediately followed by a major depressive episode which led to being hospitalized in Boston for 10 days.  It took many, many months and lots of missed time from work to recover from it.  I’ve also struggled with obesity issues which have affected my mental health and I have finally been cleared to have weight loss surgery in July.  Soon I’ll be feeling healthy, will have self-confidence again, and out of depression.  This is not meant to be a sob story, but rather a REASON TO CELEBRATE.

If you donate, you will be contributing to our family’s dream.  Having our whole family together would mean the world to us.  We live paycheck to paycheck like most Americans. I just had to put our electric bill on a credit card so our power wouldn’t get shut off.  The credit card charge will end up taking years to pay off.  We’re struggling, and I know we’re not alone.  We are very fortunate to have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, and a comfortable place to sleep.  We’re just hoping for a dream to come true.
