Mollie's SLV Global Placement 2018
On May 21st 2018 I will be travelling to Sri Lanka for a four week mental health placement with the voluntary organisation, SLV Global. This student-run group began in 2010 and continues to provide services to those suffering with mental health conditions in Sri Lankan communities. Simultaneously, the organisation enables students, like myself, to apply their psychological knowledge in a completely new culture.
Throughout my placement I will be working as part of a group to provide therapeutic activities to mental health patients. These activities will mainly be centred around creative intervention, meaning they will be accessible and beneficial to patients from numerous wards. Additionally, I will be teaching English to children in a school setting, as well as adults within the local community. Finally, much of my time will be spent working with people with additional needs. All of these projects will rely greatly on my knowledge of developmental psychology - an area which I am particularly interested in.
This opportunity will be hugely valuable to expanding my professional development in the field of psychology and will challenge my existing knowledge and skills greatly. It will provide me with new skills which I will be able to transfer back to Scotland. However, most importantly, this project will benefit those living in the communities I will be working.
All money raised will go directly to funding my placement on these projects and any amount given, big or small, will be hugely appreciated.
If if you would like any further information about my placement please follow this link (https://slv.global/placements-abroad/sri-lanka/level-one-mental-health-placement) to get a rough idea of what I will be getting up to in Sri Lanka. Additionally, feel free to send me a message with any further questions you have regarding my placement.
Thank you for any donations.
