My Travel Story

by: Amy Ruth Morris Start Date: May 7, 2024 - End Date: Feb 6, 2025
Hey!
Before going to University, I am taking a year out. As part of my gap year, I will be travelling around South Asia. Part of this trip I will be completing a five-week placement in Cambodia working with NGOs (Non-governmental organizations - local charities).
In Cambodia, the Local Team is Cambodia Volunteer Foundation (CVF), a trusted local nonprofit and non-governmental organization.
The local team found this organization because they have a special interest to help the underprivileged locals who need us, and they constantly see situations within Cambodia where local individuals require help from international volunteers. I will be based in either Siem Reap or Phnom Penh depending on where they require volunteer aid.
The type of work I will be doing involves: Applying and teaching English skills to assist at the NGO, writing proposals for fundraising, preparing case studies/reports and actively working within local communities.
I am passionate about working alongside people in society and making a ethical and sustainable change where possible. Being a peoples' person, I have always had the heart for other people's wellbeing and NGO work is something I am interested in doing as a full-time job post university. I believe this experience will not only help to shape my own future aspirations but allow me to learn and grow as an individual.
As I am completing this trip as a solo traveller, unsurprisingly funds are expensive and therefore any donations of any size would be HUGELY! appreciated.
Any donations will go towards the cost of flights, visas, travel insurance, personal spending money for leisure activities during my free time and transport to and from the placement each day.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
