My Travel Story
8,183 malnourished boys and girls. In the reality of the streets of Manila (Philippines), a stew cooked with scraps of meat and bones thrown in the trash that is cooked again or fried and with a sauce: this is the "pagpag", a lunch that is increasingly consumes more in Manila's poorer suburbs in the face of relentlessly rising food prices. , which show a qualitative leap in poverty. Ten percent is added to the proportion of poor when it comes to minors between 0 and 14 years old. A phenomenon of “infantilization of poverty”, as they call it. In terms of gender, women in poverty outnumber men, since many of them are heads of households. An example of the extreme situation that is being experienced is also denoted by the increase in child malnutrition. Over the past year, 4.8 percent of babies under one year old showed signs of lack of feeding. The percentage shoots up to 14.6 percent when the range is one to two years, and up to five years it remains at similar levels. This is explained because children stop being breastfed, which represents greater difficulty for their parents when it comes to satisfying a new mouth. Last year, 390 babies died each year in the province. On behalf of the people who work at the foundation, we hope that in this situation a great campaign can be carried out to help our brothers. Greetings and blessings to all.
