My Travel Story

by: Becky Dyke Start Date: Nov 8, 2017 - End Date: Aug 7, 2018
Ever since my Junior year in high school, I have been impatiently awaiting the day when I could start planning my study abroad trip. The day has come where I can confidently say, I have plans to study in my dream location, Florence, Italy the Fall semester of 2018. I am over the moon! My current feild of study is Elementary Education and I hope to teach second grade upon graduation from North Carolina State University. My passion has always been children and teaching. From the age of six, I had a play "classroom" where I would teach my stuffed animals, and have kept my interest since. The day I have my own classroom will undoubtedly be the most exciting day of my life. Being able to study abroad will allow me to bring cultural inclusion and competance into my own classroom and aid in giving me a world view perspective instead of a narrow more domestic perspective. I also have hopes to return to Italy or another country in Europe to teach english to children later on in my career. I have always had a passion for travel but have never traveled for an elongated period of time. With this study abroad program, I hope to learn adaptibility, communication and flexibility skills which will not only help me in my adult life, but more importantly my classroom. I am passionate about the idea of teaching on a broad, multi-cultured spectrum. I hope to give my future students the chance to develop their own opinions and views through my own experiences from my time in a foreign country. I am ecstatic to grow through this experience as a person and educator.
