My Travel Story

Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by the ocean. Watching Steve Irwin and Shark Week inspired me to dedicate my life to protecting marine animals, especially sharks. As a Marine Biology major and Environmental Science & Policy minor in the Judy Genshaft Honors College at the University of South Florida, I’m now turning that childhood dream into a career path. My goal is to pursue a Master’s and PhD in marine biology and work on shark conservation, helping protect these misunderstood creatures and the ecosystems they support.

In Fall 2026, I have the opportunity to study abroad in Australia through the WorldStrides: Marine Biology, Environmental Science & Engineering program. This program is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience: I will gain hands-on field training through diving, shark tagging, and research on the Great Barrier Reef, one of the most biodiverse marine environments on Earth. Studying in Australia is especially meaningful to me, as it has been my dream destination for as long as I can remember. The chance to explore its waters while building the skills I need for my future career is beyond exciting.

Unfortunately, the cost of this program is a challenge. I do not receive FAFSA or federal aid, and my parents already pay for my tuition out-of-pocket each semester. While they have supported me every step of the way, funding a semester abroad would be a financial strain. That’s why I’m fundraising, to help make this dream a reality without placing the burden fully on my family.

More importantly, it will help me take one step closer to becoming a marine scientist dedicated to conserving sharks and protecting our oceans for future generations.
