My Travel Story

by: Elyse Ramirez Start Date: Aug 6, 2014 - End Date: Sep 19, 2014
As some of you may know, I have a condition known as BAS, or British Accent Syndrome. This condition causes me to, without warning, break out in a British accent, no matter where I am, who I'm with, or what time it is. As you can imagine, this can get very difficult. For example, there are times my BAS catches up to me in the grocery store, which is particularly inconvenient when you ask about biscuits and wind up in the dog-food aisle. Or when you greet the cashiers with a "Good day, chaps!" and get led to the cowboy section. I suppose this is better than when BAS strikes right in the middle of the Our Father so come the sign of peace, everyon avoids you... it can get embarassing.

Professionals tell me the best way to rid myself of this condition is to surround myself with other inundated carriers who are also constantly at the mercy of the unrelenting BAS. This will overload my system, resulting in the retreat of my BAS. You may ask why I don't just watch hundreds of Doctor Who re-runs or read the entire Harry Potter series while simultaneously drinking Earl Grey. Trust me, I've tried.

Consequently, I decided to apply to a program known as GlobaLinks. This organization connects students with a specific location around the world where they will grow, learn, and discover. I'm writing to inform you I've just been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Ahh sorry, BAS acting up... What I meant to say was that I have been accepted to a school in England! So from September to December, instead of Carroll College in Helena Montana, I will be studying at the University of Kent in Canterbury England.

I am really looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will be living in the dorms so I'll get to make lots of friends with British students as well as other international students.

As is common knowledge, operations tend to be quite heavy on the pocketbook... which is why I am humbly asking for your assistance in operation "Send Elyse to England!" I have been saving up for a long time so that one day I'd be able to study abroad. That day will be here in about a month but unfortunately thee ol' piggy-bank isn't quite fat enough yet...

I know you all have lists a mile and a half long of things you are financially responsible for. It is with a very respectful and unpretentious inquiry that I am asking for your help. No amount is too small!

If you aren't able to help financially, I ask for your prayers. This will be my first time on my own so I am just a smidgen nervous. But, as the musical geniuses Needtobreathe say: "If you never leave home, never let go, you'll never make it to the great unknown."

I know this will be an experience of a lifetime, but not without your help!
Thank you so much for always supporting me, even if it is just in thought and word. I am truly blessed to have such amazing people in my life!

God's peace always be in your heart <3

Cheerio!
