My Travel Story

Hi! First of all, thank you for taking the time to visit this page. I truly appreciate your time and generosity. In the summer of 2015, I spent a month in Turkey, during which time I lived with a Turkish family and helped their two children with their English language skills. It was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. Since returning to the U.S. the travel bug has been nagging at me. In December of 2016 I will receive my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, freeing me up for my next adventure abroad. My desire to make a difference in the lives of those I am working with and my passion for Indian culture led me to a nonprofit organization called Thrive Seed, located in Delhi, India.

Through local grass roots education and women's empowerment projects, Thrive Seed aims to establish and maintain caring and nurturing learning environments where children from less fortunate backgrounds are given the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills and attributes to better their own futures, and those of their communities. Thrive Seed's special attention to women and girls, ensuring they have equal access to, and encouragement and support to complete, the same educational opportunities as their male peers, helps to eliminate gender disparity in literacy and educational levels as well as helps to promote gender equality and empower women.

My role with the organization will be as a volunteer, assisting teachers in slum schools throughout Delhi, and contributing to various projects aimed at the empowerment of Indian women. Contributing to communities in need abroad is a cause I am passionate about. The length of my service is open ended at this point and will be heavily dependent on the donations I receive, as I will have no income while volunteering with Thrive Seed. The donations I receive will go directly toward the costs of airfare, visa fees, lodging, and basic necessities. I am extremely grateful for any contributions you can make. Thank you for taking the time to read about my project and for your generous donations.
