Kyra, Julia, and Sarah go to India to work with Shaheen Women`s Resource and Welfare Association
My Travel Story
Sarah, Julia, and I spent a year abroad in India (2012-2013). During our stay we worked with Shaheen Women`s Resource and Welfare Assiciation. We fell in love with the organization, and everything that they do for women and children in India. The three of us edited case studies, designed brochures, and participated in field work in the Old City, Hyderabad, area, which included, discussion about the importance of female education, as well as guidance and crafts for younger children.
During our time with Shaheen, we were particularly moved by the success stories of Indian women, now volunteering with the organization. The tragedy which most of these women faced was seemingly insurmountable, yet through Shaheen they found the strength to rise against abuse and oppression, and have gone on to impact the lives of victims throughout India.
Our mission is to return back to India to continue working with Shaheen, and to begin writing, in a first hand perspective, about the trials that women and children, throughout India, are faced with. With the help of native English speaking volunteers, Shaheen will continue to expand its reach, and impact the lives of women, children, and men of all ages.
