Next summer, I'm going to be volunteering at the Sea Turtle Conservation in Bali, Indonesia. I'm super excited for this opportunity, because it's a step forward in my hopes of becoming a Wildlife Conservationist! I'm currently majoring in Animal Sciences at Oregon State University with a focus on Animal Behavior, and a minor in Marine Conservation. My goal for the future is to help out as much as I can to maintain the beautiful planet we have today. Bali's beaches are under a lot of environmental pressure due to increased tourism throughout the years, causing a loss of habitat for these sea turtles along with a steady decline in the population. Of the 1,000 eggs laid by a sea turtle, it is said only 20 make it to breeding age. However, due to human interference, ONLY 2 sea turtles make it to the breeding stages. This is due to poachers, fishing nets, pollution, and toxic waste that is dumped into the ocean. Sea turtles have become "critically endangered," and are soon to be extinct if we don't take matters into our own hands. During my 3 weeks in Bali, daily activities include collecting eggs, monitoring nests and sea turtle behavior, and ensuring hatchlings make it to the sea. I will also be aiding in the rehabilitation of injured sea turtles until they are able to be released back into the ocean. I chose to pursue a career in wildlife conservation because I want to help out as much as I can when it comes to conserving our planet, so our future children will be able to see all of the exotic animals and life forms that still remain. According to The Guardian, of all the mammals on earth, humans and livestock make up 96%, while wild mammals only constitute 4%. Scientists are calling this "the 6th mass extinction of life" as humans have made a huge negative impact on the environment. Since human civilization, we have lost 83% of wild mammals, 80% of marine mammals, 50% of plants, and 15% of fish (Carrington, The Guardian). I am so excited and passionate about this career, because I love this planet and everything it has to offer. Please help me raise money for my trip as I strive to save our planet and wildlife wherever I can in the nearby future. The money being raised is going towards my food, accomodation, flight, and in-country training. I would really appreciate any contributions you might consider offering me to offset my expenses. Anything helps! :)  I will post updates along the way, and am excited for what's to come! Thank you for reading this post. Together we can save the sea turtles and ultimately the earth!
