My Travel Story

The project in Bali aims to restore the coral reef and educate the locals. The warming oceans and unstainable fishing techniques have resulted in masses of coral bleaching and damage and urgent help it required to bring it back to good health.

We will be building artificial reef structures to help restore the environment lost through the death of the coral, and we will conduct regular beach and Reef cleans to help protect the environment from plastic pollution. Another aspect of the project is the education, we will visit schools to teach them about living sustainably and the importance of caring for the environment. Local fishermen will also receive education to teach them other ways to make an income and how to fish sustainably.

I study marine biology at Heriot Watt Univeristy so this trip is extremely relevant to my course and I plan to use my knowledge from the project to help me write my dissertation in my 4th year.

I am extremely passionate about saving the environment and I am so excited to have the opportunity to feel like I'm properly doing my part to help save the planet.

I choose Bali because Indonesia is one of the places affected most severely by warming ocean temperatures and therefore coral bleaching.
