Who we are, and why we are looking for support

Help Us Save Sea Turtles in Mexico's Most Remote Villages
Six years. 15 biologists. 150+ volunteers. Zero government funding. One mission.

We've been on the ground in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula for over six years - not as tourists, but as hands-on conservationists working alongside local teams to protect endangered sea turtles.

We build and maintain nesting grounds. We patrol beaches at night. We carefully relocate threatened nests. We transport injured turtles to rehabilitation. We release hatchlings into the ocean. We run local fundraising events to keep it all going.

And we do it with almost no outside help.

WHY WE'RE DIFFERENT
We're not a big organization with corporate sponsors. We're Michèle and Gilles - a Canadian couple who showed up, rolled up our sleeves, and earned the trust of the Mexican government and local communities.

We are the first foreigners from outside Mexico to be officially licensed to work with sea turtles on Isla Mujeres and in Progreso. That didn't happen overnight. It happened because we stayed. We funded. We worked. Year after year.

WHAT YOUR DONATION DOES

$25. - Feeds a rescued turtle for one week
$50-  Supplies for one nest relocation
$100 - Emergency transport for an injured turtle
$250 - One month of beach patrol supplies
$500 - Community education workshop in a remote village
$1,000 -vEquipment for a new village conservation team

OUR NEXT CHAPTER: REACHING THE UNREACHED
After six years building a successful model in the Yucatan, we're ready to expand to remote coastal villages that have no conservation groups, no funding, and no support.

These communities want to protect the turtles that nest on their beaches - they just don't have the knowledge or resources. We do.

Your funding helps us:

  • Travel to remote coastal areas by boat and land
  • Train local villagers in turtle conservation
  • Provide equipment and supplies to new community teams
  • Document migration patterns across multiple nesting sites
  • Connect isolated villages with the broader conservation network

WHY SEA TURTLES MATTER
Only 1 in 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings survives to adulthood. They face poaching, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change at every stage of life.

But here's the hope: community-based conservation works. When local people become protectors, turtle populations recover. We've seen it. We've lived it. Now we want to spread it.

OUR TRACK RECORD
✓ 6+ years of continuous on-the-ground work in Mexico
✓ Official Mexican government licensing (first non-Mexican team to receive this)
✓ Partnership with 15 local biologists
✓ Network of 150+ trained volunteers
✓ Hundreds of nests protected and relocated
✓ Countless injured turtles rescued and rehabilitated
✓ Self-funded through Chakaura services for over a decade

THE DOLPHINS TOO
We've also partnered with dolphin experts  in Puerto Aventuras to rehabilitate captive dolphins for release back to natural habitats. After two years of planning, this project is now underway.

JOIN US
Every sea turtle we save, every nest we protect, every village we train - it starts with people like you who believe this work matters.
