My Travel Story

by: Emma Marrero Start Date: Jan 30, 2023 - End Date: Jun 8, 2023
Hi! My name is Emma, and I am in my first year at MDC as an Honors student working as a Criminal Justice major. I plan to graduate in 2024 from MDC, achieve to go to Yale University to finish my major in Criminal Justice and pursue a career in the FBI or Interpol. As early as middle school, I have been interested in this field. One show that has inspired me to pursue this career as an FBI Profiler, was the show “Criminal Minds”. Since that moment, I knew that what I wanted to do in life was to be able to become a detective and solve crimes. After I graduated from high school, I decided to major in Criminal Justice, and I have not looked back ever since. Only a few people know this, but finding a summer study abroad program within my major is very challenging. The most common majors for studying abroad are related to Business, Art, History & mostly Fashion. While those majors seem like an incredible opportunity, I prefer to focus on studying what actually inspires me, which is Criminal Justice. After months of research, I finally found a program focused in my major that will allow me to expand my experience in this field from an international point of view. The program is called AIFS Abroad, and it will take place in the lovely city of London this summer for a period of 10 weeks. There, I would be taking a class called “Understanding & Preventing Crime” which translates to understanding criminal patterns & behaviors and using strategies in how to prevent them. I would also be taking credits related to Psychology and Law. This program will offer a unique opportunity for me to study abroad, getting to know the culture and meeting people from the United Kingdom and other parts of the world. The university I will attend for this summer program offers classes with people from different backgrounds, and I look forward to this opportunity. I’m very excited about this possibility, and I cannot wait to share with all of you about this experience, the process and my time in London.

I look forward to sharing the memories and experiences with my peers and you because I know it will be worth every sweat and hard work put into this trip.
