Nicole's SLV Global Mental Health Placement
In the summer of 2018, I will be joining SLV in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks, on the Level One Mental Health Placement.
SLV is a voluntary organisation, which runs various projects to help local communities around the world, and helps students/graduates, learn incredibly valuable skills, whilst being part of a brand new and exciting culture. I’ll be gaining new skills and developing existing ones, that are crucial in the many fields of Psychology, as well as my degree.
This amazing volunteering opportunity will see me working in a team with other volunteers, to try and help individuals with mental health problems. I will be working in a community mental health setting and running therapeutic activities (using art and music amongst others) to help service users who are all at different stages of their recovery.
A typical week will also see me work with individuals with special needs, and teaching English to children and young adults in the local community.
Whilst staying in Sri Lanka, I will be sharing a homestay, provided by a Sri Lankan family, with other volunteers. At the weekends, I will get the opportunity, to explore the local area and island, with my fellow volunteers.
Any donation is greatly appreciated, so thank you for your support!
I am excited to embark on this adventure in 2018 and can’t wait :)
