A Bucket List, for beating Cancer 3 times
My Travel Story
Messina has a great deal of attributes that even after 15 years still amaze me. I believe the biggest of all of these would have to be her willingness to fight, and fight hard.
We met in Art School, each with big dreams of one day traveling and seeing the beautifulness of certain parts of the world. Messina had a very rough upbringing. Her Mom could care less, and she was raised by her Grandmother. Messina was not able to see the world as others see it, she got good grades and dreamed of a way out of her world. I too had that in common with her, my childhood was everything but pleasant. Neither of us ever got a chance to really get out a travel, neither of us have ever been on a plane to anywhere.
We always dreamed of tomorrow and what we might see, do, and experience. Unfortunately early on, Messina was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She was in her 30s and they removed her right breast. This would devastate any woman but Messina was tough. We had been shook up but we both carried on and in 2019, Messina was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer. We lived in Texas at the time, and her daughter lived in Seattle , Washington. Doctors told her that they were not going to predict any thing, but thought it wise to see her daughter. I drove Messina in a day and a half from Fort Worth, Texas to Seattle. There she got the best doctors and they treated Messina although undergoing chemo and heavy doses of radiation. She fought hard and again destroyed cancer.
Texas was calling and so we came back in 2020. I put a lot of focus into work, wanting to put cancer out of my mind. But it was only a matter of time. Last year in April of 2023 Messina was diagnosed with breast cancer. We did not fool around this time. Messina was now losing the left breast so as to not have to worry about breast cancer again.
So here we are, medical bills, surgeries have drained us. Messina asked me if she had done something wrong because of what she has had to insure. Of course not, then she remarked, "Remember when we used to dream of traveling when we got older", and I replied, "Of course I do", "Well I guess I have screwed that up", "Let me see what I can do", I replied.
I have never been anything more than how my wife has viewed me. I have been most faithful, supportive, and reliable. But, I failed in the hero department, and so I am here asking for 3 trips with my wife. These places I listed are of no other importance than a husband sharing with his wife places that would seem like a dream to us. I'm asking to have these trips funded, airfare, hotel and traveling money so that I can play hero to the most important person ever to grace my life. If we could get 3 nights in each destination you would have fulfilled her bucket list. She is my hero and I would ❤️ to have this experience with her.
