Help me make my dream come true - volunteering in Armenia!
My Travel Story
Help this Diaspora Armenian make her dream come true!
Hi! I'm Eliza. I am a Diaspora Armenian, born in Yerevan, who left the country when I was 3 years old. Growing up and living in different countries, I've retained my connection to my Homeland. The last time I visited Armenia was in 2017. When the devastating war broke out in Autumn 2020, it changed everything for me. How I see the world, how I see myself, how I see Armenia. The specter of war haunts us. It haunts me. I remember tearful, sleepless nights; I couldn't eat, I couldn't forgive myself for being far from my country and unable to do much. That's why since then, I promised myself that I would eventually go and do something.
Years passed by, obstacles kept appearing on the way. But I couldn't stop thinking about helping Armenia. On the horizon appeared the organization Birthright Armenia and Armenian Volunteer Corps, offering volunteer opportunities and internships for the Armenian diaspora of any age and profession. I got in touch with them in 2021, shortly after the war ended. My application was close to finalization, but unfortunately, it didn't succeed. There was always some obstacle. So, I postponed my trip and volunteering.
Time passed, and my heart yearned more and more for Armenia. I couldn't stop thinking about how to help my country. Especially after the last war in September 2023, when thousands of my compatriots were displaced from their ancestral land. I couldn't bear it. I told myself: ENOUGH. No matter what - I will make it happen and go there.
I can't wait any longer.
And here I am. I ask all kind-hearted people for support. Even the smallest amount will help a lot. Support this diasporan whose dream has long been to help her nation.
The plan is to volunteer in Armenia for two months, organized by Birthright Armenia/Armenian Volunteer Corps. I would like to work in the PR and marketing sector, film, and research for an Armenian think tank. Unfortunately, while I'm actively searching for a job, financing this trip independently isn't currently possible. Your contribution, big or small, will directly support my volunteer efforts and living expenses. It's not just about plane tickets; these organizations require certain additional fees, such as accommodation with a host family, health insurance, transportation, laundry, etc.
Here are the breakdown costs:
- Round trip - 650$
- Program fees associated with participation in Birthright Armenia/Armenian Volunteer Corps (accomodation with a host family, health insurance, cultural excursions etc.) - 720$
- Living expenses, local transportation, occassionally eating out etc. - 130$
Overall: 1500$
I want to be part of the change. A significant change. I want to be part of something positive and promising.
I've waited too long.
Thank you for every support. It means a lot to me. As a gratitude, I would love to send postcards/short videos from the field, featuring the incredible work being done in Armenia.
With Love,
Eliza
