My Travel Story

As a double major (English and Education) every semester is necessary and every class greatly impacts the chance of me being able to complete both degrees within the time alotted. The London program would allow for me to take two classes in one summer session that apply to my primary degree which would end up with me only having one more class required to fulfill those requirements. I am unsure that I will be able to find two classes that will fulfill my requirements if I stay at home and it will be hard on my car (and me) to commute from Pasadena to Riverside every day, which would be necessary in the shortened summer session. The London program also offers a lot of experiences that I have always wanted to do, including the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour and the Sherlock Holmes Museum. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would really like to take advantage of it. Unfortunately I am unsure that I will be able to afford it with only my financial aide, so I will have to borrow money or do the program on a installment plan if I cannot get the funding needed. Any donation would be helpful (as that is less that I have to borrow) and greatly appreciated.

  • I Got A JOB!!!

So I started work yesterday. I'm a freelance transcriptionist now. :D I'm so excited. I've done a few projects and I absolutely love it. It appeals to my English side (learning new words all the time!) and my OCD side, making sure I get EXACTLY what has been said, minus the ums, uhs, and sos. So yeah, I work for Rev Transcription now. I'm not making much (I get paid 30-50 cents per minute transcribed) but its something and it will help pay for my trip so there is that. I have winter break coming up so I will probably spend most of it working and trying to make as much as I can as quickly as I can. I'm excited.
  • Just Another Day

This morning I went to the Education Abroad office. They told me that usually financial aid does not fully cover the summer programs and that fundraising and applying for scholarships is key to success. I am currently looking for part time employment as well as filling out scholarship applications. I am really hoping that all of this work (and the fact I am starting so early) will help me succeed. While the news may not have been good it is a beautiful day at the UCR campus. The weather is chilly but bright and clear. Absolutely lovely. I was going to add photos but they are too large. :( I will try and take some smaller ones soon.
