My Travel Story

by: Madelyn Knight Start Date: Mar 25, 2016 - End Date: Mar 24, 2017
As we jump into another year of high school, Haley Shaw and I cannot contain the excitement of the possibility of traveling to Europe together.

Haley is a junior in high school, which means next year will be her last year. After being friends since we were little, we both decided that having new experiences and learning more about history would be an amazing way to celebrate Haley’s senior year.  I, Madelyn, have also always dreamed of traveling to Europe. For my sophomore year, I am hoping to be able to make this dream come true.

Both Haley and I are hard workers in and out of school. We maintain high grades and we are always looking for new ways to expand our education. We are travel softball players, which shows our willingness to go to new places. Staying busy and succeeding has never been a problem for us, and we are hoping this dream can be a pathway for us to learn and expand our worldview.

Traveling allows you to have so many new experiences while being emerged in a new culture. Imagine learning about Greek mythology as you stand at the Parthenon or learning about Roman influences in the world during your tour of Rome itself.  These experiences abroad will follow us even after the trip. We will learn new cultures and learn about two ancient civilizations.

Haley and I have been friends for six years. Both her and I have expressed interest in traveling the world. To make this dream come true, we have to start somewhere. That somewhere is Italy and Greece.  Why Italy and Greece? Well, for one, the lands are enriched with so much history and culture. Both places were the sites of major ancient civilizations that are still influencing the world today.  On this trip we will walk through the Roman Forum, climb the Acropolis in Athens, and visit the site of the Oracle at Delphi, which means we will be among some of the world’s most historically significant ancient sites.  But these places offer more than just a trip to the deep past. We will also witness more recent history at the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel and in the dramatic natural beauty of Capri.
