My Travel Story

by: Jodi Walker Start Date: Jan 20, 2018 - End Date: May 19, 2018
Hi! I'm Jodi and I'm going on a working holiday to the UK towards the end of this year! More specifically, probably around the September/October mark which I know will swing around pretty quickly!

If anyone knows me well, they know that I am incredibly ambitious! I've always put my career first and foremost and always take pleasure in learning about the costume and fashion industries respectively as well as taking part in different projects ranging from Wearable Art to Ballet Costumes. But to be honest, I've felt a bit stuck here in New Zealand. However, the prospect of going on a working holiday to UK really excites me and I can't wait to get on the plane and start a new adventure!

All the history, theatre and fashion has attracted me to the UK and I can't wait to absorb myself in all of the cultural aspects of this amazing country. The UK is rich with fashion history, there's V & A museum which has one of the largest collections of garments from 400 years and London is the home of traditional tailoring and Saville Row. Plus the entertainment industry is filled to the brim with awesome things! It's the home of Shakespeare, the Royal Opera Ballet and lots of well-known films and tv shows are filmed over there; some of 'Game of Thrones' is filmed in Ireland people! This is just to name a few things that I'd love to learn more about, the UK is more than Royals and industrialism!

I've never been overseas before but I believe that doing a working holiday will really help me blossom as a person and will give me many memories to treasure.
This is not a trip for leisure, this is a trip where I will be working and learning more about my heritage as a person and the heritage of the craft that I love so much which is garment construction. Once I return to New Zealand, I know that the experience that I gain over in Europe will be beneficial for whatever I decide to do next and I know that it will benefit the entertainment and/or fashion industry here in some form.

It's always been a part of my career plan to go overseas and gain more worldly experience that I can bring back to New Zealand and now that I've got my Diploma, the world is my oyster!

If you've been a follower of my work or just love me anyway, I could really appreciate the help! The costs will be covering flights, visa, and initial working holiday costs. I plan on being more avid on social media by sharing pictures of some the things that I will make or perhaps some moments of discovery so that you can see that your donation towards my trip was well worth it!

Thanks for taking the time to be so generous towards my cause, I guarantee you that this will be well worth your time!
