My Travel Story

My name is Theo, and this year I’m taking a step that has been on my heart for a long time — I’m going to Zanzibar to volunteer as a teacher and support children in communities that don’t have the opportunities many of us grow up with.

In Zanzibar, so many children are bright, curious, and full of potential, yet they face daily challenges simply because of where they were born. Limited access to education, lack of school resources, and economic hardship mean that even the most motivated kids often don’t get the chance to truly grow. I’ll be working directly with these children in the classroom, helping them with reading, writing, and basic learning skills, but also with something just as important: confidence, encouragement, and feeling seen.

This is not a vacation. It’s a chance to sit on the floor with kids, open books together, ask questions, laugh, learn, and build a small but meaningful bridge between our worlds. Even a few weeks of consistent care and teaching can make a difference in a child’s life — and that’s what I’m going there to give.

I chose Zanzibar because I want to step outside of my comfort zone and into a place where help is truly needed. I believe this experience will change me as much as it helps the children I meet, and it’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

While I’m giving my time, energy, and heart, there are real costs that make this journey possible — including travel, accommodation, and the teaching program itself.
