My Travel Story

by: Amy Manning Start Date: Feb 17, 2016 - End Date: Feb 16, 2017
Hey!
I'm Amy and I go to Bournemouth University and study Psychology.
A topic within my studies is Clinical Psychology, which concerns issues within Mental Health. Everyone has mental health in the same way you have physical health, but some people have poorer mental health than others. Here in England we are quite lucky to have support available to us through various organisiations, but in Sri Lanka this isn't always the case.

SLV Is an organisation which helps students like myself help those with mental health issues in Sri Lanka. SLV run projects to help the local community, and at the same time helps students like myself to gain cherished experience in a completely diverse culture to my own.

My job roles will include running activities for patients and using creative therapies using music and other sensory activities to engage with patients on a variety of wards in several institutions in Sri Lanka. I will also go to workshops to attend training in order to respond to the psychosocial need of trauma sufferers, for example those who have experienced civil-conflict and natural disasters in Sri Lanka.
Not only will donations help fund activities, therapies and workshops, but will also go towards teaching English to children and to young people on employment courses and working with those with special needs. My skills gained through the projects will work towards assisting who may be marginalized in Sri Lankan society. experience as me.

Please donate and spread the word!
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. :)
