My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Sofia, and I’m majoring in Art at Miami Dade College. As an Art major and aspiring artist, I gain a lot of inspiration from my surroundings and the things that I experience. Being born in Argentina, I was exposed to a very rich set of customs and traditions throughout my childhood. Although rich, some of the ideas proved to be limiting for my inquisitive mind as I was often fascinated with other languages and cultures. This curiosity benefitted me greatly the moment I moved to the United States, thanks to my previous occasional research about other countries helping me quickly adapt to my new environment. After living in the U.S for some time, I have met a lot of people with different backgrounds, but I have come to realize that in the end, we all share rather similar western customs. This is why I have always craved a more expansive experience.

Recently I have been granted the great opportunity of traveling to Japan to study Cultural Anthropology there. I am extremely excited about this opportunity, and I hope to make the most of this experience. Japanese art is full of techniques that have inspired multiple movements in the art world. Needless to say, its unique illustrative style has been one of my main inspirations for my own artistic work and is an aspect that I wish to further incorporate and experiment with. I would love to visit many places showcasing the unique architecture, traditional clothing, and other relevant historical sites within the course’s programming. This will grant me a lot of ample knowledge on many of these incredibly inspiring techniques.

As an immigrant to the United States, I have had financial struggles and other impediments that make me unable to able to apply to many scholarships due to my status. My family and I have done our very best working to collect money for this opportunity. However, we are struggling with the money to make the payments possible. I appreciate any contributions made! Your support means a lot to me!!
