Hi everyone. I am currently studying a bachelor of biological science. Im scheduled to finish my degree in December with a marine field course on the great barrier reef. 
For me this volunteer experience at the sanctuary will provided invaluable hands on experience working in research and conservation. I hope this will aid my decision to continue further studies in marine biology.
By volunteering I will be aiding the local community in protecting and conserving nest sites from illegal egg poaching, introduced predators and rising sea levels.
Ongoing research and data collection conducted by volunteers such as myself is used to plan conservation activities and protection techniques that are then shared with the community, and
local and regional authorities in the quest to raise awareness of sea turtles and to achieve a change of conscience.
I am passionate about this project because as it actively focuses on sea turtle reproduction aiding some of the world's most vulnerable species in hatching successful nests. I have chosen costa rica for the countries vast biodiversity and for the privilage of working with some of the most unique species on earth.
This expirence is meaningful to me as all seven species of turtle found in the world are listed from vulnerable to critically endangered and I love that I am taking an active role in protecting and preserving these wonderful reptiles for future generations.
I will be posting updates and pictures of costarican wildlife and of course turtles on instagram for anyone who wishes to follow the work being done here at the ostional refuge.
