My Travel Story

by: Min Yee Ang Start Date: Mar 20, 2023 - End Date: Mar 19, 2024
During my growing years, I noticed some of the preschool children living in my neighbourhood not knowing their alphabet and numbers. I created alphabet activity booklets as I felt children should be equipped with this basic knowledge. In addition, I engaged the children with crafts and nursery rhymes. This encounter ignited a spark and passion in me to guide the children through the gaining of knowledge. This led me to enrol on a Diploma course related to Early Childhood Development at a Polytechnic level.

After graduating with a Diploma, I have been working as an early childhood educator, dedicated to nurturing, and guiding young children in their holistic development for the next three and a half years. While working with children with special needs such as children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome, I saw the need to equip myself with skills to build an inclusive classroom culture for all children. This led me to enrol in an Advanced Diploma program, which equips me with some skills to include children with special needs in the mainstream preschool environment.

Especially during my Polytechnic days, I participated in voluntary activities such as reading programs for children and working on a targeted skill to support a child with Autism. These voluntary activities have helped me practice the skills required to better support children in their development.

A University Degree in Developmental Psychology will greatly allow me to work towards being a specialist in Child Development. Upon graduation with this Degree, I aim to make a difference in children’s lives by identifying developmental concerns and providing support to children-at-risk or with special needs in their overall development. Additionally, I aim to provide resources to early education centres that will help better support children-at-risk or with special needs.
