My Travel Story

by: Ezgi Erol Start Date: May 22, 2017 - End Date: Aug 29, 2017
Hello everyone!
I am starting my Graduate Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka in September 2017 for 12 weeks. I am a Clinical Psychology master student volunteering to provide psychological help to number of people in need, including children, people with special needs and traumatized individuals after civil conflict and natural disasters.
In today's world, it is easy to get psychological help for any kind of problem, especially if you live in a developed country. However, mental health facilities and professionals are lacking in Sri Lanka and this is the main motivation behind joining this program. This project not only will connect me to people from different parts of the society who are in need of support, but also create a sense of sharing between different cultures. I will stay with locals who warmly welcome us and be assigned to many different projects, including working in a psychiatric hospital, helping people with special needs and teaching English to children in youth centres.
Unfortunately, Graduate Mental Health Placement is a completely voluntary, self-funded program. That is why I wanted to share this page and let you know that any support will be highly appreciated by a volunteer student.
This fundraising campaign is aiming to reach people who support the project by not being there, but helping people to be there. Thank you very much for your support and good wishes!
