Carolina's Trip to the Honduras to provide Medical Services
My Travel Story
I am a volunteer with the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation (CHHF). We provide healthcare for the impoverished in Honduras. Our organization is 100% run by volunteers. No one receives payment for their services. We rely on donations and volunteers coverage for their own travel and supplies. We have 3 clinics in the Honduras. Healthcare is a challenge throughout the rural areas of Honduras and especially for those with limited income and/or education. We provide free medical, dental and ophthalmic services to the poor and needy in the Department of Colon, Honduras. The aim is to work with selected active people in the community, side by side, teaching and training them to advance their standards of healthcare.

I was supposed to go last May but all mission trips were cancelled due to the pandemic. I was asked to go this August with 7 other people to provide care in our clinics there. We will be one of the first teams on-site in over a year. I feel honored to have been asked to go on this mission. From what I gather, aside from just providing basic healthcare services we'll be providing vaccinations as well. Some of these people see a doctor for the first time through our services. Given the last year we're needed more than ever. One minute we could be delivering a baby and the next providing childhood vaccines to the kids that come through the local orphanage or families in the villages. I've been assigned to work in the dental clinic and help with triage.
I feel blessed to have a wonderful family and all of my needs met. My boyfriend Jeff has been nothing but supportive. It has been my dream for years to serve others overseas who don't have accessible healthcare. I've put a lot of thought into this and when asked what I'd want for my birthday I can't really come up with anything material in nature. I have a good life, I'm healthy, and my needs are met. I want to help others. Any money raised through this personal fundraiser will go towards the team fee. The team fee covers our supplies, lodging near the airport, and meals while we serve. Aside from the team fee I have had to pay for flights, a passport, and vaccinations for myself through the health department. The total for my trip with airfare and these misc fees comes to about $1600. Every little bit helps!
I will be blogging about my experience every step of the way and will send a link out to all my donors. You will also receive a postcard from me while I'm in the Honduras letting you know how my medical mission is going.
Should something happen or the trip is cancelled I will either offer to return the funds to you OR donate it directly to CHHF.
Thank you for considering this fundraiser <3
