Morocco: cultural kaleidoscope
My Travel Story
Over the past two years, I have discovered that I have a passion for improving the development and relationships between communities both large and small. I would like to become a forigen service officer, which is basically a diplomat who promotes peace and prosperity in other countries. In the future, I would like to work on improving political and social stability in the Middle East.
Morocco 2022
In Morocco, I will spend two weeks taking Arabic lessons, volunteering at a summer camp for elementary school students, learning about Moroccan culture and hiking in the cities of Marrakesh and Oukaimeden. Arabic is the 5th most widely spoken language in the world with about 274 million speakers, in addition being able to read and write in Arabic opens doors to understand smaller languages that use similar dialects.
Costa Rica 2021
Last summer I had the plesure of spending 3 weeks in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. During my time in Costa Rica, I worked on infrastructure projects and taught English at two local schools, one which was walking distance from our home base. I got the oppertunity to live with people from all over the world, from Isreal, to Spain, to Brazil, to Serbia, I was not just learning about my host country's culture, but the culture of the people I was living with 24/7. In addition when we weren't volunteering or exploring the beautiful rainforest, we were building our leadership skills through leadership activities and seminars.
