γεια σε όλους ! (Hello Everyone!)
From May 8-May 28th, I will be participating in a clinical internship in Athens, Greece as part of my Capstone Thesis for my Master's degree. I am currently a graduate student at Georgia State University working towards my Master's in Medical Science in Biology. During this internship, I will participate in several surgical rotations, seminars and workshops that will enhance my skills and knowledge as a future physician (OBGYN to be specific). 

This trip is very important to me for many reasons.  As a first-generation college student, I don’t have what I consider a familial “blueprint” to guide me through my collegiate and higher education career. However, I use this to my advantage by learning what skills and experiences are needed to excel in academia and life. Gaining different cultural and social exposure allows you to become a well-rounded individual in many ways such as the following:
  • Mindfulness in your interactions with others
  • The respect you have for your cultural background in comparison to others
  • Expanding your point of view when reflecting on your personal life and how you view the world 
  • Decreasing the number of stereotypes and biases you harbor with lack of exposure.

This internship will:
  • Emphasize how Greece’s history and social climate affect their medical care  
  • Provide me with exposure to what it would be like to work in the medical field
  • Provide insight into what my residency years may resemble and
  • Introduce me to specialties I may not have considered previously as a career
The funds donated will assist me with program costs, summer registration fees,  transportation and living expenses for the duration of the trip, and medical supplies that are needed to participate.
