Help Victoria Complete Her Capstone Thesis in Athens, Greece
My Travel Story
From May 8-May 28th, I will be participating in a clinical internship in Athens, Greece as part of my Capstone Thesis for my Master's degree. I am currently a graduate student at Georgia State University working towards my Master's in Medical Science in Biology. During this internship, I will participate in several surgical rotations, seminars and workshops that will enhance my skills and knowledge as a future physician (OBGYN to be specific).
This trip is very important to me for many reasons. As a first-generation college student, I don’t have what I consider a familial “blueprint” to guide me through my collegiate and higher education career. However, I use this to my advantage by learning what skills and experiences are needed to excel in academia and life. Gaining different cultural and social exposure allows you to become a well-rounded individual in many ways such as the following:
- Mindfulness in your interactions with others
- The respect you have for your cultural background in comparison to others
- Expanding your point of view when reflecting on your personal life and how you view the world
- Decreasing the number of stereotypes and biases you harbor with lack of exposure.
This internship will:
- Emphasize how Greece’s history and social climate affect their medical care
- Provide me with exposure to what it would be like to work in the medical field
- Provide insight into what my residency years may resemble and
- Introduce me to specialties I may not have considered previously as a career
Any contribution is much appreciated. - Signed your future doctor :)
