My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Celeste Calderwood and I am a bilingual speech-language pathologist. I just survived my first year in the schools! I loved my first year, yes there were difficult moments, but I loved learning and meeting new people. I loved my students-even when they sneeze all over my room. I work at a Title 1 school, where most of these students have a less ideal homelife. Yet, these kids love to love and love to give hugs. I try to be the best that I can be for these students. The love I have for my students is a love I want to share with the people in Nairobi, Kenya.

I chose Kenya because it is a part of the world I am unfamiliar with. A culture, land, and people I want to experience and love. Not only Kenyans, but Kenyan women. Women who deserve equality and empowerment. These women want more for themselves and I would be honored to share those moments with them. 

As an educator, my yearly salary is limited; with that being said, I have been able to save some funds to contribute to this trip. However, having a successful fundraiser would ease the finances.

Being able to experience this trip not only can impact my personal life, but also my profressional life. Empowering women, empowers women. I am in my mid-twenties. A time in my life to experience and learn about myself. I truly believe this trip will help guide and impact my future.
