My Travel Story

SO as yoou may or may not know myself and Vicki Horan are going to Thailand in September! For three weeks we will be volunteering with the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, a non-profit organisation whose focus is on the protection, rescue, rehabilitaion and, where possible, release of wildlife and elephants in Thailand and South East Asia.

In Thailand, just like every other country in the world, animals are abused and exploited for profit and human gratification, especially in the tourist industry. All the animals we will be looking after on our trip have been rescued by the sanctuary from the illegal wildlife trade, homes, the streets or tourist attractions where they could have been made to pose for photos or perform in a degrading show amongst other things. The sanctury is therefore vital for safegaurding the future of these animals in Asia.

For two weeks we will be working specifically with the elephants and learning more about these magnificent creatures as well as getting stuck in and washing them, feeding them, performing basic health checks and cleaning out their paddocks. For the next week we will be working in the general wildlife sanctury, again providing food for and cleaning the bears and primates, and generaly maintaining the sanctury.

As you can imagine, this will not be cheap. It's costing us £795 for the placement, which includes a donation to the sanctury and excludes flights, insurance, visas etc.. THEREFORE we kindly ask for any donations, big or small, that you would feel willing to give. Every penny brings us one step closer to going on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure so we would both be eternally grateful!!

Thank you so so much in advance!!
