My Travel Story

by: Dasha Anufrieva Start Date: Jun 3, 2021 - End Date: Aug 1, 2021
Some people are able to independently choose doctors, hospital; receive free medical care and medicine, and others may die from a simple fracture or cut. Why are there still places on Earth where people die from curable diseases? Hungry children who don't even have the strength to get up; elderly people with advanced chronic diseases, whom relatives bring to an appointment in their arms; adolescent girls whose childhood ended too early due to pregnancy.

My name is Daria, and I want to help not in word, but in deed. Together we can make the world a healthier and more just world!

From an early age, I dreamed of becoming a doctor and helping those who really need it. Dreams of working in Africa, Haiti and other places with limited resources took up all my free time.

I grew up and now it's time to turn dreams into goals. I am absolutely sure that medicine should be available everywhere and to everyone - all depending on nationality, place of birth and skin color.

This is why I am planning to go on a medical mission to a remote village at the ends of the earth - Guatemala.

What is this place:

1. People there are dying of curable diseases due to lack of proper medical care

2. Many women do not remember the names of their children because they do not know anything about contraception.

3. It takes several hours to get to the nearest hospital and some families have no means of transportation

4. People have no money to see doctors and to buy medicines

5. Most of the population does not know how to write, read, and count because from an early age children start working without even graduating from school.

Thanks to two Russian girls from Ufa - Victoria Valikova and Karina Basharova, four years ago a charity clinic Health&Help appeared in the Guatemala region, where doctors, nurses, medical students help absolutely everyone - even those who have no money. to pay for the treatment. A few years later, the girls built a second clinic - in a village by the ocean - in Nicaragua.

Both clinics are currently fully functional, but they constantly need additional support in the form of volunteer assistance. Medical volunteers provide assistance to local residents and visitors from neighboring villages, conduct educational work, and also bring the necessary medicines and medical supplies with them, since some medicines are about 10 times more expensive in Guatemala than in Russia.

For local residents, the clinic and the work of volunteers is the only chance of salvation. And I can't stand aside!

How can I help these people?

1. I will go there in August 2021 for a month.

2. I will provide assistance to doctors and nurses, help with appointments.

3. Carry out educational work among the local population - about personal hygiene, contraception, precautions against various diseases.

4. I will bring humanitarian aid to the clinic - medicines and medical supplies.

How can you help?

I know that there are many caring people in the world who are ready to help. Therefore, I ask you for help. The cost of my mission will be 1830$. Of these, 1230$ will go to tickets from Moscow to Guatemala City and back, and the remaining 600$ - to a charity fundraiser for the clinic. If I can save some of the money, all of it will go to the needs of the clinic and patients.

I will be grateful for any help and support you provide. It is very important to me, the clinic and all patients. Thank you for your kind Heart.
