My Travel Story

As part of my Doctor of Dental Medicine course at the University of Sydney I have elected to participate in dental service particularly in communities that are either marginalised or lacking in proper oral and medical health care.

I am fortunate enough to have been in contact with 'Around Good People' which is a non-profit organisation that aims to deliver a community-led oral health care team to remote unserviced communities of mountainous rural Nepal. The team will consist of international dental/oral health professionals and students like myself where we will provide our services in temporary dental clinics in villages near Pokhara and Kathmandu.

I am extremely excited about this project because I feel volunteering is an amazing way to develop professional and personal growth. It is also an opportunity to gain deeper cultural awareness for communities outside of Australia and I look forward to learning more about Nepal and its people. In this way I am very grateful that The University of Sydney provides this opportunity for its students because it not only allows us to give back but I believe it also teaches us how to value and appreciate what we can choose to do for others.
