Ghana was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule. As an African-American woman, it has always been important for me to visit an African country to discover and reclaim our ancestral roots. Volunteering as a teacher in Africa will give me the opportunity to improve my teaching skills and discover more of what I'm capable of. At the same time, I will also use this travel to bring about positive change in the communities I work in.
