My Travel Story

by: Keyra Hernandez Start Date: May 19, 2018 - End Date: Aug 31, 2018
¡Hola! / Hello!

• English Version
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am very grateful that you are here reading me and joining my cause.

My name is Keyra Hernández, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Europe. Until now, this has been the most gratifying experience I've ever lived. Besides from studying and living in the authentic Andalusia (south of Spain), I travelled to 9 countries (Spain, Portugal, Marrakech [North Africa], Denmark, Holland, Norway, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy). Coming from a little neighborhood in Puerto Rico's east coast, the world seemed like a whole new place in this island girl's eyes.

Even though throughout the exchange I was financially supported because of my savings, the process of gathering all the economic support I needed was very tough. I remember I had to prepare and sell lunches, fill up three piggy banks, hold back expenses and work like I've known how to since I was 15. Several months after working hard and "drinking my tears", I was on a plane to Spain.

My dedication and perseverance is what has taken me to this precise moment in my life: teaching kids abroad after finally graduating from my BA in Communications. During September, I will be working, as a volunteer, with Kindergarten kids in Bali, Indonesia. I invite you to read more about my program here: Childcare Companion in Bali, Indonesia

This initiative is born from the heart of a purposeful traveler who seeks to share with others her genuine vision of the world, a place to help and better contributing with our skills. It is my first time traveling to educate others and I feel that this is what I have been preparing for all these years.

Help me carry a message of perseverance and love through education to children on the other side of the world. I am very excited about sharing my passions with you, and subsequently, with children in Asia. Remember: it is not just about traveling, but more about contributing with generosity, helping others and leaving a responsible legacy to our future generations.

I appreciate all your help.

XO,

XO,
