SLV Global is a voluntary organisation that was founded in 2010 by Lucy Nightingale. The aim is to focus on global Mental Health by providing volunteers the chance to enhance their knowledge and to gain experience through Psychology work experience, while having the opportunity to work in communities that need extra support.
I am fundraising so I can join SLV on the Psychology placement in Sri Lanka for 10 weeks starting on the 4th of December and finishing the 9th of February. The experiential element of this Mental Health voluntary placement will enable me to put the theory I have been learning into practice within a clinical setting and in the community, responding to individual psychosocial needs and providing much needed support to help improve wellbeing and increase self-esteem.
I am passionate about Mental Health issues - Like many adolescents growing up I struggled with mental health issues. From personnal experience I know available resources are limited and the stigma that is attached with Mental Health.
Sri Lanka experienced a civil war in 1983 which lasted 25 years and a tsunami in 2004 as a result the Sri Lankan people have suffered mass trauma, displacement and many individuals have mental health issues.
Mental Health does not discriminate and affects so many people across all cultures.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page, my aim is to fund raise £3,000 this covers the cost of my placement fee and flights.
Any contributions would be going to a great cause and is much appreciated.
