My Travel Story

I come from a low-income family and all I want to do is help people. I went to Tecate, Mexico as a volunteer with the Latino Student Health Project at UCLA to host a health fair for underrepresented communities. When we got to the community center, there were at least 10-20 kids already there waiting for us. They were covered in dirt and were desperate for drinking water. I would have never imagined that these kids would have shown up to a community center unattended. Their parents were not with them, but to them it was such a normal thing. Because of this, I want to become a pediatrician; I want to help kids before they have any health problems in order to prolong their lives. The Atlantis Fellowship accepted me into their program and I decided to choose Thessaloniki, Greece as my program destination because of all European countries, Greece is one that not many people think of helping. Poverty is everywhere and there is always someone who needs services. This program will allow me to shadow doctors in order to gain clinical and communication skills. Eventually, I plan to work in the hospital that I was born in and this program will give me an edge when I apply to medical school.
